Four escape overnight house fire in Marysville

MARYSVILLE – Four people escaped a house fire unharmed late Monday night in the 6700 block of 37th Place NE.

Just before midnight, a resident smelled smoke before seeing flames in the garage, then alerted three other occupants to get outside, fire officials said.

When firefighters arrived, flames were spreading though the garage and over the roof. They were able to quickly contain the fire to the garage and save the house’s main structure, but during a search they found a dog that had died, Fire District spokeswoman Christie Veley said.

Smoke and other moderate damage to the home was estimated at $60,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Lake Stevens, Fire District 22-Getchell and Fire District 19-Silvana firefighters provided mutual aid.

Veley said the home had working smoke alarms, which doubles the chances of surviving a fire. The district recommends a smoke alarm in every bedroom, outside every sleeping area and on each floor in a home.
