ARLINGTON — Downtown Arlington will be bustling with patriotic activities on Sept. 11, as part of this year’s “Freedom Festival.”

The day’s festivities will kick off with local music in the Legion Park gazebo at 7 a.m., followed by the Sea Cadets raising the flag on the pole next to the gazebo at 8 a.m.

Registration for Operation Homefront’s 5K “Freedom Walk” will also begin at 8 a.m. in Legion Park at 201 Olympic Ave., across from the Les Schwab Tire Center. The walk itself will start from Legion Park at 9:11 a.m.

There is a $5 donation fee for all walkers, except for children 12 years or younger, with all proceeds going directly to Operation Homefront to help wounded warriors and military families in need.

The walk will stretch for approximately three miles down Centennial Trail and the first 300 registrants will receive a free “Operation Homefront Freedom Walk” T-shirt.

Legion Park will also host an art show during the day, while Arlington Firehouse 46 will conduct an 11 a.m. unveiling ceremony for the artifact from the World Trade Center that Arlington firefighters received in New York City. Firehouse 46 is located at 137 N. McLeod Ave. in downtown Arlington, and will also be the subject of a rededication ceremony at that time.

Freedom Festival organizers anticipate the event could draw as many as 10,000 attendees and include a speaking appearance by Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson.
