ARLINGTON Sarah Hegge received the first Arlington Kiwanis Club Community Recognition Award at the clubs annual installation banquet Sept. 19.
The chair of the Kiwanis Community Recognition Committee, Daniel Johnson, said that they chose Hegge for her dedication and energy put to so many projects for the city and the community of Arlington.
This is the inaugural year for this committee and this award, Johnson said.
The committee was formed to recognize individuals for outstanding service or substantial contributions to their communities through volunteerism, leadership or support to others.
The idea behind it is to recognize individuals in the community whose deeds may ordinarily go unrecognized or unsung, Johnson said.
Hegges contributions have not gone entirely unsung she received a similar award several years ago from the Arlington Garden Club.
Hegge works by day as the recreation coordinator for the city of Arlington, but her hours of service are not bound by the clock.
She was nominated by Sherri Phelps, an office mate at the city who is a member of the Kiwanis Club.
She dedicates her time and energy to many of the projects and events here that make Arlington such a great place to live, said the newly installed president of Arlingtons Kiwanis Club, Jan Bauer.

She ran the banners project as part of her job, but also spent her own time creating her own banners and finishing some others.
She coordinates the citys Movies in the Park program, but she sets up, cleans up, and works the event on her own time.
She helped Bill Blake build the citys tree nursery.
She teamed with Terry Marsh to help build Presidents Elementary School ball field in her off time.
She coordinated all the donations for the Legion Park project.
Sarahs contributions to our community exemplify the kind of service that we should all strive for, Bauer said.
Along with Bauer as the new president, the officers of the club are Michael Prihoda, vice president; Deena Jones, treasurer and David Boulton, secretary. The Arlington Kiwanis Club meets at 7 p.m., Wednesdays, at the Arlington Boys & Girls Club.
