Highway 9 roundabout functional as school begins

Detours that added up to 10 miles are no longer needed, but the roundabout itself is not finished.

The repaving project near Marysville-Pilchuck High School is done, so no extended delays are expected there.

The state Department of Transportation had hoped the roundabout at Highway 9 and 84th would be done by the start of school.

WSDOT installs roundabouts to improve the safety of a particular corridor. This intersection was the site of 43 collisions between 2007 and 2012. Roundabouts have been shown to reduce collisions by 75 percent, a state news release says.
