ARLINGTON — Cindy Huleatt tendered her letter of resignation as promotions coordinator for the Linda M. Byrnes Performing Arts Center July 7.
In her letter, which was distributed at an Arlington City Council workshop July 14, Huleatt noted that she will continue in the position until Aug. 31, but cited the number of hours and amount of commitment required by the role as her reasons for stepping down.
“I wouldn’t have done it any other way,” said Huleatt, looking back on her year in the job. Huleatt and Arlington City Administrator Allen Johnson agreed that she would be involved in examining the structure of that job, to help the city determine how it might need to be changed in the future.
“It gives us an opportunity to take a step back and take a look at everything,” said Johnson, who cited Huleatt’s experience with the PAC as an asset in making any such decisions. “We’re not just going to run out and fill the position. We need to figure out what we want and need next.”
While Johnson declined to speculate as to what those changes might be, on the grounds that assessments need to be conducted first, he acknowledged the “need to move forward” and the value of the PAC to Arlington as a whole.
“Everyone is in agreement that the Performing Arts Center has been a wonderful thing for the community,” Johnson said. “We want to make sure it stays in place. Cindy was hired to handle its promotional side, while another person took care of the technical side. We’re going to see if that structure still works, as we do every time there’s a job opening, and Cindy herself will be very helpful in determining that.”
Huleatt likewise emphasized that her resignation should not be considered a “farewell,” either to the community or to the PAC.
“It continues to be a huge passion of mine,” Huleatt said. “I’ll still be giving time to it, just in different ways. I’ve lived and breathed this job for a year, which I think we needed to get to this point. It’s been a great year of lessons learned, and I want to make sure we continue that success.”
