Lake Cavanaugh Road closed for repairs for six weeks

OSO — Anyone heading to the lake for a swim will have to go the long way this summer, as the Lake Cavanaugh Road from Oso will be closed to traffic.

The road will be closed to traffic between mile posts 1.2 and 1.7 while Snohomish County Public Works Maintenance crews repair damage from winter weather, according to Christopher Schwarzen, from the executive’s office of Snohomish County.

Lake Cavanaugh Road heads north from State Route 530 about 13 miles east of Arlington at Deer Creek in Oso.

Snow and rain this past winter damaged the roadway in two places and repairs are needed, Schwarzen said.

The road is narrow in the area of the damage with a 15-foot vertical drop at the outside edge. Unstable material beneath the roadway will be excavated and replaced with stabilizing and compacted material. A full road closure will enable the crew to complete the work in the shortest time possible while maintaining the safest conditions for staff and the public. It also will provide substantial cost savings.
