ARLINGTON — Residents who live near Eagle Creek Elementary School should not panic if they hear a loud noise Friday, May 21.

Between 10:15-10:30 a.m., fifth-grade chemistry students will be taking part in an experiment, which will cause a loud “boom” noise at the school.

Misti Gilman, Arlington School District spokeswoman, said that she spent time Friday morning alerting nearby neighbors and told the city of Arlington spokeswoman Kristin Banfield that officials could expect phone calls about the noise.

“Because I don’t know what to expect, I am erring on the side of caution and alerting neighbors in case the sound worries anyone,” Gilman said.

The chemistry experiment will involve hydrogen and oxygen in a balloon.
