Man dies, but 2 women survive after canoe overturns; it’s ruled an accident

ARLINGTON – The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office has completed the identification and examination of a 55-year old man who was involved in a canoe accident Nov. 5 at King Lake in Granite Falls.

The decedent is Valeriy Lukashevich, of Arlington. The cause of death is accidental freshwater drowning.

Two women survived the mishap, after their canoe overturned.

Rescuers pulled the two women from the water, but could not locate the man, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The women, one in her 50s, the other in her 20s, were taken to a hospital.

Divers recovered the man’s body.

The accident happened in the 16600 block of 155th Avenue N.E., near Arlington Heights.
