ARLINGTON – Whether waiting for a checked out book or needing help with a bake or book sale, Arlington Public Library staff know they can depend on volunteer Steve Glaze.

For the time and energy he gives to the library and its customers, Glaze was presented with the Mayor’s Volunteer Award July 15 by Barb Tolbert.

Glaze began serving at the Arlington branch of Sno-Isle Libraries in June 2015. By March this year, he had already donated 173 volunteer hours.

When Glaze gets to the library, he receives a list of titles for customer holds. The list includes items for local patrons, as well as others throughout Sno-Isle Libraries’ 24 locations. He makes sure that customers receive their items quickly.

He also helps Arlington Friends of the library, a group of volunteers who support the library by raising funds to keep literacy and educational programs free that the library offers all ages. Glaze helps the nonprofit group by coming in at least once a week to stock the ongoing book sale. He also provides aid at the monthly two-day book and bake sales at the library.

Glaze and his wife, Linda, have lived in Arlington for six years. He enjoys his grandchildren, reading and gardening.

Glaze became interested in volunteering after watching his mother volunteer for the Special Olympics for years.

When he first moved to this area, he started by volunteering at the local food bank, then helped out at Cascade Valley Hospital.
