MARYSVILLE – An 8-year-old girl who found out recently she has leukemia will be honored at Marysville Getchell High School’s football game Friday, Oct. 24.

Kennedy O’Day will be an honorary captain at the Chargers Homecoming game against Everett.

Volunteers will be passing out fliers asking for donations to help with Kennedy’s medical and other costs.

Kennedy is one of the few girls in the Marysville Football League. She played offensive guard for the Chargers in the Pee Wee division for kids ages 7-8.

When she was cleated recently the wound did not look right so she was taken to a doctor. They took blood work and found out Sept. 26 she has leukemia. She has had surgery and chemotherapy treatments since then.

Supporters have adopted the theme, “No One Fights Alone.” Players on her team wear a patch with that slogan and ribbons that are orange, the color symbolizing the fight against leukemia.

People can donate by going to any Chase bank and giving to the “Kennedy O’Day donation fund” or go online to www.gofundme.com/f4wr80.
