Another conspirator sentenced in Blue Stilly cigarette case...

SEATTLE — A tobacco products distributor in New Mexico has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for his role in a contraband cigarette conspiracy that involved the Blue Stilly Smoke Shop in Arlington.
A U.S. District judge also sentence Matthew M. Cunningham to three years of supervised release and ordered him to pay $21,545,000 in restitution for his role in a scheme to sell untaxed cigarettes to Blue Stilly.

Arlington man in critical condition after crash

GRANITE FALLS — A 22-year-old Arlington man was critically injured after he lost control of his vehicle and hit a pole and a tree.
The man, who had four passengers in the 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle shortly after the crash, which was reported just after 2:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3 in the 4400 block of Robe Menzel Road in Granite Falls.

Red Rooster corn festival taking place in Arlington

ARLINGTON — Fans of corn should plan on checking out the Red Rooster Festival’s Old Fashion Corn Festival.
The event, in its first year, takes place on Friday, Sept. 3 through Monday, Sept. 6 at Garden Treasurers Nursery & Organic Farm and Foster’s Produce and Corn Maze in off State Route 530 in Arlington.
Both farms will offer freshly cooked corn on the cob, as well as family activities and entertainment, during the three-day festival.

Temporary Walmart hiring center opens in Smokey Point

SMOKEY POINT — Walmart has opened a temporary hiring center near its new store location to fill approximately 350 positions.
The center, located at 3704 172nd Street NE, began accepting applications on Monday, Aug. 20, and will continue to do so from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Arlington solid waste facility among county sites to...

ARLINGTON — The three Snohomish County Waste Division sites, including one in Arlington, will be closing early later this month for one-day training sessions.
The Everett-based Airport Road, Mountlake Terrace-based Southwest and Arlington-based North County recycling and transfer stations will close at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 15, 16 and 17, respectively.
County waste division officials are asking customers of each facility to arrive by 3 p.m. for processing before the closure.

Arlington woman dies in crash

ARLINGTON — A 32-year-old Arlington woman died Thursday, Aug. 26, after the car she was driving crossed the center line and struck a Ford truck head one, according to authorities.
The two car collision took place just at approximately 2:30 p.m. in the 15200 block of 67th Avenue NE just north of 152nd Street NE.

Walmart taking shape in Smokey Point

The new Walmart near 172nd Street NE is continuing to take shape.
Construction crews are slated to have the 154,000-square-foot store completed by the end of September and officials said they are still planning for an Oct. 27 grand opening, said Jennifer Spall, Walmart spokesperson.
