DARRINGTON A memorial scholarship fund for Darrington students has been established in honor of Kay Shuler Brooks, a member of the Darrington School Board of Directors who died a year ago in February. Born and raised in Darrington, Brooks was a reporter with the Arlington Times from 1998 to 2004. She then took a job with the Sauk-Suiattle Tribe and was elected to a position on the school board of directors in Darrington.

DARRINGTON Washington State Department of Transportation crews began emergency repairs on State Route 530 Dec. 14, after heavy rain pushed the Sauk River to near-flood levels the week before, eroding the riverbank and moving the river to within several feet to State Route 530 in two locations north of Darrington.
