Report of ‘explosive’ in man’s car turns out to be coffee container

ARLINGTON — Authorities closed down a section of I-5 to investigate a possible bomb threat only to find out that it was coffee. The interstate was closed near the SR 532 exit near Stanwood just before noon on Wednesday, June 30, after a 19-year-old man pulled off the road to report that he had had found a container in his car that he thought might be an explosive, said Trooper Keith Leary of the Washington State Patrol. Washington State Patrol bomb technicians responded to the incident but found that the threat was a coffee container. Leary said that the man said he had a history of leaving his car open and was concerned about the container. Washington State Patrol Incident Response also responded to the scene. All lanes of northbound I-5, as well as the exit, are now open.

I-5 closed, reopened after WSP bomb squad makes determination

ARLINGTON — Authorities closed down a section of I-5 to investigate a possible bomb threat only to find out that it was coffee.

The interstate was closed near the SR 532 exit near Stanwood just before noon on Wednesday, June 30, after a 19-year-old man pulled off the road to report that he had had found a container in his car that he thought might be an explosive, said Trooper Keith Leary of the Washington State Patrol.

Washington State Patrol bomb technicians responded to the incident but found that the threat was a coffee container.

Leary said that the man said he had a history of leaving his car open and was concerned about the container.
