ARLINGTON The Arlington Rotary Club will be continuing its annual holiday tradition of assembling and delivering food baskets for families in need Dec. 20.
Arlington Rotary Club President Kerry Munnich explained that Rotary members and their relatives will meet at Soccer First, the dome behind Haggen Food and Pharmacy in Arlington, at approximately 1:15 p.m., and their goal is to depart for deliveries no later than 2:30 p.m.
Our mission is to support youths and seniors, Munnich said. When you see the need, it really hits you. One lady hugged me and burst into tears. Its surprising at first, because its not something on a grand scale. It may not seem like a lot, but its huge to them.
Rotary Club member Bill Kmet is in charge of organizing the event this year, and he elaborated that they would be delivering 50 baskets to the Arlington area and 10 baskets to the Oso and Darrington areas.
Were buying the food from Safeway, Kmet said. Our members are sponsoring and paying for individual baskets, not the club.
The Rotary will also be serving lunch at the Stillaguamish Senior Center Dec. 21 at 11:30 a.m. Since this is the senior centers annual holiday party, Rotary will provide prizes as giveaways, serve lunch to the seniors, most of whom go through the food line themselves, and then clean up. Rotary serves lunch at the senior center twice a year.
