Sound Salmon Solutions cleans up Stillaguamish River

ARLINGTON — Sound Salmon Solutions is continuing its clean-up efforts along the Stillaguamish River, and it's looking for more volunteers to help pick up plastic bottles, styrofoam containers, paper bags and other junk from the Blue Stilly put-in point. The waterways cleanup at the Blue Stilly fishing access point will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 17.

ARLINGTON — Sound Salmon Solutions is continuing its clean-up efforts along the Stillaguamish River, and it’s looking for more volunteers to help pick up plastic bottles, styrofoam containers, paper bags and other junk from the Blue Stilly put-in point.

Trash that accumulates in waterways creates a toxic environment that can kill or injure salmon and other wildlife, since such waste can choke or even strangle animals if it’s ingested or if they become trapped in it.

Clean-up crew volunteers will learn about salmon and their habitat, as well as other local wildlife, in addition to how removing trash from the area helps improve the ecosystem and saves salmon and other animals.

Volunteers are encouraged to dress for the weather, wear clothes that they won’t mind getting dirty and bring their own water bottles. Sound Salmon Solutions will provide garbage receptacles and all the tools needed, as well as some snacks.

The waterways cleanup at the Blue Stilly fishing access point will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 17. For more information on the event and its location, or sign up to participate, you may email michele@soundsalmonsolutions.org.
