ARLINGTON – The Stillaguamish Tribe retrieved a historic canoe Oct. 26 that was stolen years ago.
Members of the Stanwood Museum acquired the 18th century canoe in the 1990s, but when they researched its origins, they found it had been stolen from the Stillaguamish Tribe in Arlington in the 1960s.
The museum contacted the tribe and arranged for the canoe’s return Monday, an event that was celebrated by both groups.
