Distraught teen shot by officers released from hospital

ARLINGTON – The 17-year-old girl who was shot by two Arlington officers in February has been released from Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, officials said Thursday.

It was unclear whether she has returned home.

Detectives with the Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team continue to investigate the Feb. 14 shooting.

The morning of the shooting, several people called 9-1-1 to report a person lying in the middle of the road, screaming, and crying intermitently.

Police last week released the 9-1-1 audio recordings and officer radio traffic.

When officers arrived, they attempted to talk to the girl, who was reportedly distraught after an altercation with her boyfriend. Later on, an officer broadcast on his radio that the girl was armed with a knife and was suicidal.

Disobeying the officers’ commands, she advanced toward them with the knife, said Aaron Snell, an Everett police officer and spokesman for SMART. They tried to stop her with a Tazer, but were unsuccessful.

The girl was shot in the chest and her lower right side, according to police radio recordings.

Aid units treated the girl before she was airlifted to Harborview, Snell said.
