ARLINGTON – At 12:25 p.m., July 11th, Marysville Fire District crews were dispatched to a single engine response of a grass fire the size of a football field in the area of 156th Street NE and 23rd Avenue NE, Arlington, according to Kristen Thorstenson, Public Education Specialist/Public Information Officer for the Marysville Fire District.

While in route crews could see a large column of smoke. What they found on arrival was a large grass field with a tractor & hay baler on fire. They rapidly extinguished the fire. The preliminary cause of the fire was mechanical failure of the tractor. The owner of the tractor reports the tractor will be salvageable, but he is not certain about the baler. The equipment was not insured.

Even though July 4th has come and gone, the danger of fire is still here, it continues to be hot and dry out there. Be sure your equipment, whether it be off road vehicles, farm equipment or lawn mowers, are in good working order.
