A 42-year-old Tulalip woman died in the Snohomish County Jail May 22.

She was found unresponsive in the jail medical unit. Medical personnel began CPR and called for additional medical aid. Aid units responded but attempts to revive her were unsuccessful.

She had been booked into the jail May 21 by the sheriff’s office for fourth-degree domestic violence assault.

The inmate had been medically screened at booking, placed on a drug and alcohol withdrawal watch and admitted into the medical unit. She was routinely checked every half hour by medical unit personnel.

Her death is being investigated by the county’s Major Crimes Unit. A review from a clinical standpoint also will be done, independent of the death investigation.

The identity of the inmate, as well as cause and manner of death, will be released by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
