A. Gloria Radtke Wessel

A. Gloria Radtke Wessel passed away after a short illness in Arlington, WA on February 13, 2018 accompanied by family.

She was 95 years young and had accepted Jesus as her Savior.

Gloria married Charles Wessel, July 6, 1943, at the Little Church Around the Corner in New York City. San Diego was their home during the war years. After Chuck’s military retirement as Chief Warrant Officer 2nd Class, they relocated to Oak Harbor.

In 2009 Chuck and Gloria moved to Arlington to be closer to family.

Gloria was a lifelong learner. Her formal education included graduation high school Alta Vista, Iowa 1939 followed by completion of a course at the Electronic Television Institute in Omaha, Nebraska.

At the time of her marriage she was employed in the 6th service command of the U.S. Army at Post Radio Station in Michigan. After moving to Oak Harbor she was employed by the Whidbey News as a typesetter. Gloria had a love of the meaning and use of words. Gloria was an avid reader, loved all styles of music from opera to 1930’s era, was a Sweet Adelines performer, enjoyed bird watching, was a charter member of Supreme Emblem Club (Elks) Oak Harbor and enjoyed travel throughout the world.

Her hobbies included crossword puzzles, gaming at Olympic Place, playing the stocks and happy hour. She truly enjoyed life.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband Chuck of 73 years in 2015.

She is survived by daughter Carol (Suzy) Casprowitz (John), son Craig Wessel (Jean), and grandchildren Julia Graves (Andy), Jonathan Wessel (Laura), Casey Wessel and John Ernest Casprowitz (Debbie).

Great grandchildren include Lani and Kodi Graves, Danielle Wessel and Jessi Casprowitz. Plus her very beloved friend Marian Fiedler (Kiki).

A very heartfelt thank you to her staff and many friends of Olympic Place.

A memorial service was held at Olympic Place February 14.
