Arthur John Dappen, born Oct. 29, 1946, finished his course on Nov. 9, 2006. Art was the son of J. Wayne and Gladys Dappen of Everett.
Art married Linn Berkbigler, daughter of Paul and Mary Ellen Berkbigler, on June 10, 1972. Together they had 10 children and had recently taken seven foster children, whom the family is still hoping to adopt.
Art served as a Christian missionary to Mexico from 1975 until his death, due to an illness. The emphasis of his ministry was on strengthening families, encouraging them in the home education of their children, and disciplining them in their faith in Jesus.
Art is survived by his parents; brothers, Alan and Andy; sister, Ann; his wife; his children, Sarah, Betty, Matthew, Suzy, Bobby, Joey, Hildi, Paula and Janet, his foster children, Abelardo, Alfonso, Armando, Leonel, Ruthie, Raul and Carmela; and his grandchildren. Sarah married to Jim Coleman, has seven children, and Betty married to Josh Scoot has five children.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, at the Word of Life Lutheran Brethren Church in Marysville.
