Carmen Joan Lucas

Carmen Joan Lucas, 76, of Stanwood, Wash., passed away peacefully at home Sept. 19, 2006, with her husband, Evan, at her side.
Joan was born April 12, 1930, in Freeman, Wash., to Archie and Grace Wycoff, the youngest of 10 children. She attended Whitworth College and the University of Washington, where she met her husband, Evan Lucas.
They moved to Boston, Mass., in 1956 with their son, Stan, where they lived while Evan was attending Boston University. Sons, Paul and Ken, were born once the family returned to the Northwest. They lived in Everett for many years, and, more recently, enjoyed their home on Lake Martha near Stanwood.
Joan was an artist and talented mapmaker; as owner of Pathfinder Maps she produced lovely hand-drawn maps of Camano and Whidbey Island, Wash. She loved road trips with Evan, playing with her grandchildren, Harry and Gabey, and hiking and enjoying the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
She was involved with a number of regional organizations including C.A.A. (Creative Arts Association of Everett), as president and volunteer; Snohomish County Audubon Society; Cub Scouts with her three sons; Sunday School at the First Methodist Church in Everett; wrote articles for various local newspapers and publications after returning to the University of Washington to get her Masters Degree in Journalism.
She is survived by her husband, Evan; sons and daughters-in-law, Stan and Carol, of Woodinville, Wash., Paul and Fiona Knight, of Singapore, and Ken and Michiyo, of Burbank, Calif.; as well as her grandchildren, Harry and Gabey. She is also survived by her two sisters, Ardyce Johnson, of Eugene, Ore., and Leona Scheminske, of Beaverton, Ore.
A service to honor Joans life was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 30 at the United Methodist Church of Marysville, 5600 64th St. N.E.
