Helyne Marie Simmons

Loving Wife Loving Mother.
The most loving, caring and compassionate woman left this world and went to another beautiful life with her Lord. She passed away peacefully in her sleep after a short battle with cancer.
Helyne Marie Steffen was born July 3, 1927 to Hans and Lillian Steffen. Raised in West Seattle, Wash., her caring and compassion began as a big sister to three brothers, William Steffen, of Tacoma, Wash., Rick Steffen (deceased), and Fred Steffen, of Camano Island, Wash. She attended Holy Rosary Grade and High Schools.
In 1946, she married the love of her life, Howard Simmons. They recently celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. They were blessed with six children, Jack and Barb Simmons of Gig Harbor, Wash., Jim and Lynne Simmons of Des Moines, Wash., Joe and Sue Simmons of Seattle, Jeff and Rita Simmons of Redmond, Wash., Jeanne (Simmons) Weisheer of Bothell, Wash. and Jerry and Sandy Simmons of Camano Island. In addition, Helyne will be missed by 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Michelle, Matthew, Jody, Jennifer, Patricia, Christopher, Nicholas, Cody, Jacob, Jared, Julia, Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Madeline, Emily, Jonathan and Joel. She was a loving grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Rick; and her granddaughter, Patricia.
Helyne devoted her life to her husband and family. Helyne and Howard lived in West Seattle until 1976 when they moved to Camano Island. Helyne was very active in her church, St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Stanwood, Wash. She enjoyed golf, knitting, church and caring for her family. Her nurturing and gentle nature made her mom or friend to all who knew her.

Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Stanwood. A rosary was held at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 2 at St. Cecilias. Arrangements under the direction of Gilbertson Funeral Home, Stanwood.
