Hubert Hugh Smith

Hubert Hugh Smith, 102, passed away on Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, in Marysville, Wash.
He was born Jan. 29, 1905, in Seattle, Wash, the son of Alba & Pat (Swearengin) Smith. He had lived in his own home until the time of his stroke on Nov. 9.
He grew up in the Snohomish-Hartford area. As a young man, he worked in many of the lumber mills in the Snohomish, Wash., area.
In 1927 he married Zelda Myers, to whom he was married for 67 years. They lived at Fobes for many years, where their children grew up.
During the Depression he was a truck mechanic. In 1951 he bought a farm near Stanwood, Wash. He later moved to Marysville, Wash., and became a contractor. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing.
Surviving are daughter Vivian (Jim) Creeden and son Ronald (Jo) Smith. He has nine grandchildren, Michael (Sylvia) Creeden, David Creeden, John Creeden, Richard (Cheryl) Creeden, Dina (Rod )Jackson, Jerry Smith, Gordon (Patty) Smith, Gregory (Tahra) Smith and Tawni (Jason) Biddle; two step-grandchildren, Randy and Rick Rossland. He also has 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; one niece, Dorothy Gilliland.
He was proceeded in death by his wife, Zelda; son, Gordon Smitty Smith; a brother, Harold; two sisters, Lucille Mommsen and Gwendolyn Clark.
A special thanks to his care-givers, Theresa and Patsy, to his neighbor, Howard Davis and to other neighbors who were so good to him. He was an exceptional man and will be missed by many.
Memorial services were held at Schaefer-Shipman Funeral Home, Marysville, on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m.
Cremation by Purdy & Kerr of Monroe.
