Jeannette Elaine Grinde

Jeannette Elaine (Grinde) Mowrer, of Bow, Wash. passed away Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 at 1:12 a.m., at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, with her family at her bedside. She fought a short, but a very valiant and courageous battle with adult non-Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer.
Jeannettes families on both sides were early Stanwood and Camano Island, Wash., pioneers. She was the only child born to Orlin E. and Margaret Peggy (Moe) Grinde on March 6, 1941, in Stanwood. She was raised and received her schooling in Stanwood, graduating from Twin City High School with the class of 1959. She then attended Western Washington College of Education graduating with a degree in Education in 1963. Jeannette married Larry Mowrer, of Mount Vernon, Wash., on April 6, 1962, at the Eighth Street Chapel at Fort Ord, Calif. They moved to Lakewood, Wash. where they raised their son, Christopher David.
Her intelligence, love of reading and natural way with children led her to a job at the Clover Park School District in Lakewood as a forth-grade elementary school teacher and later as a reading specialist. Jeannette retired in 1996 after 33 years of teaching. In 1998 she and Larry moved back to Skagit County and settled in Bow. Jeannette spent her retirement going on adventures with good friends and devoting more time to her talent for creating crafts that brightened a lot of peoples lives with her special personal style.
Preceded in death by her mother and father, Jeannette is survived by her husband of 44 years, Larry Mowrer, at the family home in Bow; and her beloved son, Christopher, and his, wife Angela, of Seattle.
The world needs more people like Jeannette, she lives on in the hearts and memories of all who knew her.
Inurnment service was held at 1 p.m., Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, at the Anderson Cemetery in Stanwood; followed by a Memorial Service at 2 p.m. at Our Saviours Church, 27201 99th Avenue N.W., Stanwood.
Memorials may be made in Jeannettes name to Cancer Research at the University of Washington Medical Center, Seattle, WA 98105.
