Kenneth Marvin Sather

Kenneth Marvin Sather, local legend of Marysville, Wash., let go of his long fight with cancer on Nov. 21, 2007, in Marysville.
Ken was born in Everett, Wash. to (Anna) Marie (Gresli) Sather and John Sather on Aug. 30, 1930, and lived on the family farm his whole life. He attended the old Kellogg Marsh School House, and graduated from Marysville High School.
He grew up raising cows and farming until he started his business in 1956, connecting water lines, septic systems and roads around town and the county. He was known to stand by his word with a hand shake and offer a memorable rapport while leaning against his truck.
When Ken retired in 2003, he stayed busy with daily projects and raising cows. He was known to drive through town below the speed limit in his green Ford truck, running an errand at a local business or stopping in for a mocha at a favorite espresso stand.
Ken always put his family first and taught them how to work hard, play often and enjoy the outdoors. He shared his love for fishing, hunting and camping and spent a lot of time in the San Juans and Alaska on his boat with family and friends.
Ken is survived by his wife, Carol (Crist) Sather; his children, Don, Mike, Dennis, Jeff and Ann-Marie; and daughers-in-law, Kim and Andrea.
His youngest daughter, Kathy, passed away in January 2007, and she took his hand and led him away from this life. He has joined his parents and many relatives and good friends and we know it is quite a reunion.
Ken also had six grandchildren who he was proud of and loved very much. Kenny, Casey, Ilea, Kiley, Meg and Maclean will always have great stories to share about their grandpa and will hold him in their hearts as they continue the Sather legacy.
Ken will be remembered for his wit and sense of humor, his ability to appreciate what crosses his path and his simplistic yet satisfying ways. He enjoyed making things, sharing things and fixing things. Ken was also a notorious mole trapper, a self-proclaimed karaoke singer, an avid lover of chocolate and a steadfast champion to legalize lutefisk.
The family is planning a gathering at 2 p.m., on Dec. 15, 2007, for family and friends to share stories, love and respect for our beloved Ken. Please join them at the Masonic Temple in Marysville, located at 5th and Columbia.
