Marguerite Louise Maggie Nathan, 80, died Dec. 19, 2006.
She was born Sept. 21, 1926, in Kansas City, Mo. She was adopted at three months by Frank and Stella Sharp and spent her early youth in Pratt, Kan.
At the onset of the Great Depression the family moved to Walla Walla, Wash., where she later met Robert Nathan. They married in 1949. After living in several small towns in rural Idaho and eastern Washington they eventually moved to western Washington, living in Bainbridge Island, Lynnwood, Arlington and Everett.
Maggie retired as librarian of Arlington Library in 1992. She was an avid reader all her life and passed the love of books on to her children. She was active in the Democratic party and supported a variety of social justice causes. She was a classy, intelligent woman with a quick wit. She truly had a wealth of knowledge.
Maggie is survived by her daughters; Elise Sheehan and son-in-law, Michael of Everett and Shelley Harshbarger; granddaughters Analise and Leah Harshbarger; great-grandson Jacob Harshbarger all of Tallahassee, Fla.; grandsons Andrew Nathan of New York; Christopher Nathan of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; Corey Nathan of Longmont, Colo. and great-granddaughter Amanda Nathan currently of Bangkok, Thailand.
She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, Bob, and her son, Marc Nathan.
In lieu of flowers donations to Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation, Marysville, would be greatly appreciated. Maggie loved her work at the library and the wonderful people she met over the years in Lynnwood and Arlington. She was a strong advocate for the importance of reading.
The family would also like to thank the wonderful, loving, caring staff at Washington Oakes Retirement Community.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Dec. 28, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. at Temple Beth Or in Everett. Arrangments by Purdy & Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home in Everett.
