Peggy Joyce Hershaw

Peggy Joyce Hershaw, 88, of Sedro Woolley passed away in her home on July 23, 2010. She was born March 2, 1922 in Arlington, WA to John and Marjorie Martin. She attended Arlington Schools and married Ralph Hershaw January 13, 1939. They resided for many years on their farm on Edgecomb Hill where they raised their family. Peggy enjoyed being a Cub Scout leader and 4-H leader, working in the cafeteria in the high school later on. In 1963 she bought Russell’s Flower Shop and owned and operated Peg’s Floral until 1968 when they moved to Camano Island. There they enjoyed smelting, fishing, crabbing and the fresh salt air. From there they moved to Chihuahua Pines near Leavenworth for a total change of scenery. They were quite active in the community there, founding a snowmobiling club and teaching snowmobile safety classes to the youngsters; which, took up a lot of their time as did opening their swimming pool to the neighborhood kids in the summer.

Due to health they moved to Sedro Woolley on their son Bill’s farm in 1987. Gardening was a great hobby of Peg’s and her love of flowers certainly showed in her yard and garden. She was a wonderful cook and known for her “conkadoodle,” coleslaw, and the raisin cakes she baked for her boys. One of her favorite pastimes was playing Skip-Bo with the grandkids and making sure the cookie jar was always full. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents John and Marjorie Martin, and her husband Ralph. She is survived by a sister, Jean Rose of Marysville, sister-in-law Stella (Bill) Jensen of Arlington, as well as her children, John of Woodburn, Oregon, Dick (Tina) of Republic, WA, Judy Sievers (Bill) of Marysville, Bill (Suella) of Sedro Woolley and Cameron (Marcia) of Washougal, WA. She leaves a legacy of 16 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her faithful dog Buttercup.

A Celebration of Life was held on Sunday, August 1, 2010, 1 p.m. at Weller Funeral Home, 327 N. MacLeod Ave., Arlington, WA. Reception followed at Magnolia Hall in Arlington.
