Randall L. â??Randyâ?? Carter

Randall L.’Randy’ Carter, 54, passed away suddenly, after a brief illness, on Oct. 28, 2009 in Everett, Wash. Randy was born in Alliance, Ohio on July 18, 1955 and attended Geneva High School in Geneva, Ohio, where he played football. He was named Geneva High School Player of the Year in 1972 and graduated in 1973.

Randy went on to play football and rugby at Yale University. Randy was a three-year letterman at Yale in football, a second team All-Ivy selection in 1974 at placekicker, and the football team scoring leader in 1975. In 1974 his field goal in the last seconds beat Dartmouth and made him a household name on campus. He was also the co-captain of the Yale Rugby team for two years and a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon (DKE). Nearly everyone on campus knew Randy due to his exploits both on and off the field. In spite of all this attention, he never lost his small town perspective and by the time he graduated, most of the class of 1977 knew where Geneva, Ohio was located. He graduated in 1977 with a degree in history.

Randy worked in a variety of sales positions, in a variety of locations, until settling on a career in life insurance and financial services. His most recent position was Sales Manager for the Pemco Life Insurance Company of Pemco Insurance in Seattle, Wash.

The consummate beer drinker, Randy was able to enjoy one last “Steiny” (Steinlager) before he passed. Randy loved watching his sports teams through good times and bad. Unfortunately, Randy’s teams usually were going through bad times. Known for his intelligence, quick wit and questionable jokes, Randy was a joy to be around and always the life of the party. Just this year, Randy became a member of the Kiwanis of Arlington and he enjoyed doing his part as a volunteer. He will be deeply missed for he was dearly loved by all of his family, friends and co-workers.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Carter, and his mother Jean Ann Carter (Lindsay), both of Geneva, OH. He is survived by his wife, Kristine, of Arlington, WA; his children Meredith, Madeline and Lindsay Carter of Vancouver, WA.; his brother Bill Carter (Debbie) of Rochester, NY;

his sisters Carol Prill (Jim) and Cindy Stevenson, both of Geneva, OH; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held at Weller Funeral Home, 327 North MacLeod Ave, in Arlington, WA Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 at 2 p.m., followed by a reception celebrating his life.
