Have coffee with us to have input on schools

By Pete Lundberg

What is the school district doing about snow days? How can the district help my student find courses of study that work with their aptitudes? What will school boundaries mean for my family? What is this Equity and Diversity Committee going to do? What is the vision of the school district regarding secondary schools and how we teach? How do I find a way to have my voice heard?

These and many other topics of conversation happen during the Marysville School Board’s Coffee with Constituents meetings, held at 9:00 am on advertised Saturdays at the Living Room Coffee House on Fourth Street.

Those who attend our Saturday morning board coffees are free to ask and explore any and all facets of district operations and education that are meaningful to them. Listening to what community members value is a key role for district board members. It is invaluable for us to hear from our constituents in a relaxed setting, where the only agenda is to listen and provide answers when we can.

What we learn from you helps us to focus on board values, and to create a district vision that mirrors what you need from the school district.

Groups have varied in size thus far, with as few as three people up to as many as ten. The intimacy of the setting assures each participant of having one on one question and answer time with our board members.

The atmosphere has been lively and collegial. Please consider attending Coffee with Constituents to share your concerns, thoughts, or questions answered. You will find a comfortable and inviting environment, with no agenda other than to hear what you want to share with or ask your local school board members.

Help school board members raise awareness of what matters to the Marysville community about our schools. The coffee is provided. We hope to see you!
