April is Art Awareness Month at Arlington High School. As we finish our preparations, we are reminded that our mission as Arts educators is to actively engage all students in developing a deeper understanding of visual and performing arts communication.
Arlington Public Schools is receiving national and worldwide attention for our Robotics program. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics began four years ago as a mentor-based club available to our high school students. Mentors from Boeing, Microsoft and the APS staff commit many hours to support the team that now calls itself FIRST Team 2903 NeoBots.
Citizens should be aware of — and opposed to — House Bill 2801 and the provisions that would allow local governments to cease publishing public notices in their local newspapers. The presumed cost savings to local government is in fact false economy — there is a hidden and very dangerous cost. In trying to save money, local governments would curtail access to the legislative process, and ensure that fewer — rather than more — citizens know what their representatives are up to.

Most responsible families live within a budget. Beginning with their income levels, they plan how to pay for bills, such as the mortgage, rent, utility payments, groceries, gasoline, prescription drugs, etc. They prioritize their spending, save money if they are able, and put needs ahead of wants to stay out of financial trouble. They live within their means.

Arlington School District is one of 295 school districts in the state of Washington. While each district is unique in its demographics, needs, community support and funding issues, there are many laws and regulations that govern how all districts are managed. During the current economic times, school districts are challenged to meet the many educational requirements while experiencing diminishing resources.
