The taste of Maryfest 2007 bore a hint of strawberries. Time was when Marysvilles annual festival had everything to do with strawberries. Strawberry fields took up a significant percent of the now-developed acreage surrounding the town and instead of stuffing mattresses, the business at Fourth and Cedar was processing truckloads of strawberries.

Local school districts are going five-for-five when it comes to the levies on the Feb. 19 ballot and local voters should be commended for supporting the districts and, more importantly, the students they serve.
The Democratic Party caucus for a sliver of Washingtons 44th Legislative District was held Feb. 9, in the Marysvilles Totem Middle School cafeteria. The previous presidential caucus, held at Lake Stevens High School, brought a huge chunk of 44th Districts precincts together.
Highway tolling has won the support of the state Transportation Commission, which I have been promoting for years, with special attention to the mountain passes. Why should users of a marine highway, the ferries, be forced to pay, while drivers using passes cut through mountains to shorten the driving distance between both sides of the state and maintained in severe weather, get a free ride?
