I am Pierce County Executive John Ladenburg, a former 14-year elected prosecutor currently challenging Republican incumbent Rob McKenna for Attorney General. I have been campaigning for months on a simple platform: reform the Attorney General’s office to get results on consumer protection, identity theft and investigate high fuel costs — not simply issue press releases and pursue so-called public service announcements to advance a political agenda.

I read Kristin Banfield’s quotes in both the local daily and the Arlington Times with a great deal of interest. She states that since Mayor Larson came on board, they have really worked to raise the bar. If you do the math, you will find that Larson has been in office most of the time this theft was going on. How much was missing before Larson took office? Obviously, since some $775,000 was embezzled within the last six years — no one was watching the store. Whatever happened to auditors that could catch this kind of major fiasco or using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles? Did the annual audits specify who had dual responsibility in two departments and therefore, had the opportunity to perpetrate this kind of theft? I believe the citizens of Arlington are responsible for these monies being paid into the city. I hope that everyone in Arlington that pays these taxes are as incensed as we are. How could this happen if anyone was paying attention.
What can a family do for summer fun on an income of less than $30,000? Not the Birch Bay Waterslides where tickets for a family of four runs $64 and gas to get there and back will set you back another $32. Rule out an air-conditioned movie at Marysville’s Regal Cinema where tickets for four will cost $34.50 plus having to explain to the kids why dad won’t buy popcorn.

Under Washington’s new Top Two Primary system, the two candidates in the Aug. 19 primary’s partisan races who receive the most votes in their race will move on to face off in the November general election. In the race for the U.S. House of Representatives, District 2, we believe the two who should move on are the incumbent Rick Larsen and challenger Rick Bart.
The candidates running against incumbent Kirk Pearson for the 39th District Representative, Position 2, are not nearly as well prepared as those who are taking on Barbara Bailey in District 10.
The 10th District spans northern Puget Sound, from the southwest border between Arlington and Marysville west of I-5, then north and northwest to include Whidbey Island.
The Silvana Firefighters Association would like to ask you to vote Yes for Proposition 1 and Yes for Proposition 2 on Aug. 19. This community has experienced record growth in the last five years; as a result the needs of your fire department have also grown.
