Praise and raze (June 3)

Praise to the consultants and to the Marysville School District for seeing the value of Small Learning Communities, especially at a school like Marysville Getchell, where the buildings are really set up that way.

Praise to Kim Reynolds, who is teaching seminars on helping parents teach children how to make good choices.

Praise to Gamut360 holdings for building a ramp for Sharon Desmond of Marysville.

Praise to Advancement Via Individual Determination programs that help students make it to college.

Raze to the state legislature for not fully funding education, despite the mandate. It makes it so hard for schools to come up with budgets by the deadline.

Praise to Delta Dental for honoring Christopher Leonard of Marysville Getchell for his good deeds.

Praise to all of the athletes in spring sports, who work so hard for little notoriety because of their chosen interests.

Praise to Marysville’s noon Rotary for giving 47 students $121,900 in scholarships. It’s a great service to the kids of our community.

Praise to all who filed to run for office recently. Contested races help us get a much-better government to represent us.

Praise to Marysville Historical Society president Ken Cage for working so hard to bring a museum to town. And we can’t forget the huge donation made by the Rotary and the other volunteers and businesses that donated time and materials. The museum will be treasured for years to come.

Praise to Christy and Thomas Lee for donating $5,495 to pay off the elementary school lunch debt in all of Marysville.

Raze to the homeless who are taking advantage of the kindness of the people of Marysville. We want to help, but not if you’re going to take advantage of us or be over-aggressive. If you’re going to do that, get out of town.

Raze to those who give money to panhandlers. That’s not what they need.

Raze to those who zoom up to stop signs or red lights. You freak out those who were taught defensive driving.

Praise to Arlington for its new teen center.

Praise to those who supported the Tulalip Boys and Girls Club and the Salvation Army at their dinner-auctions.

Praise to the Marysville Soroptimists for empowering young women to believe in themselves.

Praise to all involved in the annual Fishing Derby at Jennings Park. What a fun event.

Praise to Arlington for putting on a Color Vibe Run. Someone in Marysville should pick up on that.

Praise that a travel center is coming in to Island Crossing. Now, don’t have this turn into a Raze by not putting in the needed infrastructure to deal with traffic.

Praise that senior centers are talking with the elderly about the potential misuse of painkillers.

Praise for the Learning Walks at Arlington High School. We hope they continue, even when Principal Christine Hinojosa leaves.
