103 schools compete in Hole-in-the-Wall meet at Lakewood (slide show)

LAKEWOOD – The depth of Arlington’s boys and girls cross country team stood out at the annual Hole-in-the-Wall meet at Lakewood High School Saturday.

About 103 schools from as far away as Alaska and Arizona competed in what is becoming one of the top meets in the state.

Seven Arlington boys ran in the top race as there were so many competitors each varsity race had two heats.

Quincy Fankhauser was the top local finisher, placing 23rd out of 272 runners in the fastest heat with a time of 15 minutes, 43 seconds.

He was followed by teammates: Noah Loftis, 36th; Favian Villanueva, 53rd; Aiden Emerson, 78th; Vincent Loftis, 91st; Blake Landry, 104th; and Chance Pearston, 132nd.

Pearston’s time was one second behind fellow Eagle Nathan Alexander, who placed 22nd in the slower heat out of 371 runners with a clocking of 16:48.

For Marysville Getchell, Evan Krautkremer was 25th; Jack Rimstad, 78th; Cole Norton, 93rd; and Michael Nguyen, 128th.

For Marysville-Pilchuck, Tanner Lauzon was 28th; Jeffrey Richnor, 138th and Trever Stone, 147th.

For host Lakewood, Gabe Hatch finished 36th, Alex Jensen, 63rd; Jesse Stoddard, 102nd; and Mario Barletta, 120th.

Finishing behind Alexander in that race for Arlington were: Ezra Nicol, 30th; Brandon Moore, 38th; Jameson Murray, 52nd; Trent Henry, 55th; Kobi Starling, 81st; and Ryan Barene, 92nd. In the faster race, as a team, Arlington was sixth out of 38 teams with 251 points. Redmond won with 110. The winning time was 14:57. In the slower heat, the Eagles were second with 188 points, with Lakewood 13th at 452 and MG 16th with 497 in the team standings. Auburn Mountain View won with 141. The winning time in the 53-team race was 15:47.

In the girls races, Arlington placed 23rd in the faster heat with 564 points and eighth in the slower one with 354. Lakewood was 10th with 416, MG 12th with 424 and M-P 38th with 943 in the slower heat team standings. El Segunda won that 40-team division with 33 points. The winning time was 18:28.

Just like in the boys race, Arlington had seven runners in the 40-team fast heat with 153 runners. Anne Louise-Fernandez was 92nd in 19:41. Behind her were: Paige Nelson, 100th; Katelyn Morris, 119th; Jensyn Smith, 136th; Maggie Delaney, 138th; and Tailer Cochran, 140th. The winning time was 17:16. The top team was North Central with 75 points.

Julia Rea of MG had the best time in the slower heat among local runners with a time of 19:59, placing 20th. Teammate Janae Parsons was 25th, and Jasmine Nguyen, 40th.

For Lakewood, Madison Howe was 53rd; Callie Buchanan, 72nd; Holley Riley, 77th; and Alexa Daily, 96th out of 275 runners. Alexia Sandoval was M-P’s top finisher at 106th.

In that race, Brooklyn Hill was Arlington’s top placer at 67th followed by: Katie Clarke, 73rd; Hannah Johnson, 75th; Brittany Anderson, 76th; Vivian Potong, 94th; and Kelsey Mutton, 98th.
