A dozen local golfers compete at state starting today

Five golfers from Arlington, three from Marysville-Pilchuck and two each from Marysville Getchell and Lakewood are competing in state golf tournaments starting Tuesday.

For the girls, Abbie Braun, who shot a 36-hole score of 199, and Alexis von Ellinghaus, 192, of MG are competing in the state 3A Championships at Canyon Lakes in Kennewick. Katelyn Melohusky of M-P, 182, also is there, along with Marina Vu, 193, of Arlington. All four placed in the top 17 in the 3A District 1 Tournament last week at Kayak Point, thereby qualifying for state.

For the Lakewood girls, Bailey Dixon, who shot a 97 for 18 holes, and Brooke Forsell, who shot a 100, at Skagit Valley qualified for the 2A Championships at Horn Rapids in Richland. In boys golf, three from Arlington are playing at state at Columbia Point in Richland after qualifying last week at Walter Hall in Everett.

Connor Stephens is there after placing second with rounds of 73-75. Also going are Cody Oakes, who had an 82-74, and Caden Smith with a 81-80.

For M-P, CJ Goodman, with a 77-79, and Nate Venables, with a 80-76, also qualified.
