TACOMA — As some of the top track and fielders in their league, the Arlington High School Eagles were expected to have some pretty strong times and distances at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships on May 24-26, and they did.

The Eagles took fifth place overall for the boys team and 14th place overall for the girls team.

Arlington produced several top athletes this season including Lyndsey Leatherman, a sophomore, who placed seventh overall at state in the girls shot put, with a final distance of 39 feet. Junior Marissa Swegle also competed in the shot put with a final distance of 32 feet, two inches. Leatherman found success in the girls javelin as well, placing fifth with a final throw of 132 feet, 10 inches.

Alexis Sarver placed third at state in the discus with a final distance of 128 feet, seven inches. Leatherman also competed in discus with a final distance of 103 feet, six inches.

Freshman Jessica Ludwig placed sixth in the girls triple jump with a final distance of 36-00.50.

The girls 4×200 meter relay team of Diamond Martin, Ludwig, Taylor Andersen and Teresa Wadey placed seventh at state with a final time of 1:45.44.

Also scoring points at state for the Eagles were a number of their male athletes, including senior Blake McPherson, who took second place in the boys javelin with a distance of 197 feet, six inches and also took seventh place in the boys 300 meter hurdles with a final time of 39.47.

The boys 4×400 meter relay team of Andrew Bosket, McPherson, John Decker and Jared Alskog gave Arlington five points with their fourth-place win. Their final time was 3:23.44.

Also having success on the field was Arlington senior Dan Boyden, who placed fifth in the boys discus with a distance of 161 feet, eight inches. Boyden also placed fifth in the boys shot put with a final distance of 54 feet, eight inches.
