ARLINGTON — More than a hundred kids and parents stopped by Britt Sports Cards in Arlington on Saturday, Aug. 3, for a chance to meet the AquaSox’s top two players — pitchers Lars Huijer and Aaron Brooks.

Mike and Lisa Britt, owners of Britt Sport Cards on Olympic Avenue in Arlington, began working with the AquaSox at the start of the year and wanted to bring some of the players up to local community.

“This has been great,” said Mike Britt. “We’ve had so many people coming in to get something signed, and we are happy to have them here.”

Webbley, the AquaSox mascot, was standing outside the business, giving out free high-fives and ushering people in for a chance to have personal items or store-bought photos signed by the athletes.

“I live in Marysville, but we come in here quite a bit,” said Sara Murray, mother of Jameson, 10, and Myles, 8. “Mike Britt is awesome. My kids are always in here trading cards with him. We heard about the signing, so we brought them in.”

Britt sold baseballs and photos of the athletes for signings, though the event was free and anyone could bring in a ball, glove or hat for an autograph.

“We’ve been fans of the AquaSox since we moved here in 2005,” said Marci Hurst of Arlington. “We go to a game every other week. In fact, we already have tickets for the All-Star Game.”

Hurst’s sons Jake, 11, and Josh, 9, were excited to have their baseballs autographed by the pitchers.

“It’s great that they are doing this,” said Hurst. “They love anything baseball related. We come in here quite frequently because my sons recently got into collecting and trading baseball cards.”

The AquaSox, based in Everett, rarely do autograph signings outside of their immediate neighborhood, so the event was a treat for Arlington fans.

“We started working with Mike at the start of the year and it was a natural tie, because we are a local team and this is a local sports business,” said Katie Crawford, director of community relations for the AquaSox. “We have a lot of great fans up in Arlington. We do a lot of community appearances, but it’s not always signings — we go to Little Leagues and hospitals in the area.”

The AquaSox hosted the league’s first All-Star Game on Tuesday, Aug. 6, and Britt held a drawing for people to win tickets to the game.

“Both Lars and Aaron are pitchers for us, and they are on our Northwest All-Star team,” said Crawford. “This is the first All-Star game ever for the league and we are hosting it, so its very exciting. We actually only have general admission tickets left, everything else is sold out.”
