MARYSVILLE — Nobody can seem to remember the last time the Arlington boys won on the Marysville-Pilchuck hardwood.

After five lead changes in the fourth quarter and two overtime periods, the Eagles’ 61-58 win in Wesco North play isn’t likely to be forgotten anytime soon.

“That was an amazing game; I’m just so proud of my boys,” said Eagles coach Nick Brown. “These kids are gamers and we had so many different guys hit shots for us when we needed.”

While this win can be credited to an all-around Arlington effort, the clutch shots of junior Tanner Goheen kept the Eagles, who once led by as many as 10, in the game.

“Tanner was there for us when we really needed him,’” said Brown.

Goheen’s first points of the night came by way of a game-tying 3-pointer with 1:45 remaining in regulation to even the score at 45-45. Goheen then hit another game-tying shot from long-range with two minutes remaining in the first overtime to put the score at 50-50.

“If he’s spotting up, he can hit those shots,” said Arlington senior Eric Carlson, who finished with 16 points and six rebounds. “It came from an unexpected source, but we all know that Tanner can do it.”

Arlington had possession, leading 52-51 in the first overtime with 26 seconds remaining, when Zach Cooper missed the front end of a one-and-one. M-P came down and got a shot, but there was a foul called with no time remaining. Tomahawks’ Ryan Shannon made one of two free throws to tie the game.

In the second OT, Arlington held the advantage most of the time, but ended up winning on Carlson’s short jumper with just seconds remaining to make the score 60-58.

“This was just a crazy game,” said Carlson. “We didn’t want it to be this close, but we finished it out and we really needed this one.”

Cooper finished the game with 15 points, including going 5-of-6 from the free throw line in overtime to help secure the win.
