Arlington cross country teams excel at state

The Arlington Eagles placed fourth for the boys and fifth for the girls at the 3A State Cross Country Meet Saturday at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

The boys had 118 points. Kamiakin won with 34. And the girls had 189. North Central won with 20.

Junior Vincent Loftis led the boys with a 22nd-place finish in 16 minutes, 1.7 seconds.

Sophomore Aiden Emerson was right behind him, placing 26th in 16:05.7. Sophomore Brandon Moore was 33rd in 16:11.8. Ryan Barene 43rd in 16:17.1. Chance Pearston was 55th in 16:26.6. Juniors Quincy Fankhauser and Isaiah Lowery were 69th and 70th in 16:39.7 and 16:40.

For the girls, junior Jasmine Nguyen of Marysville Getchell was the top local finisher, placing 15th in 18:49.7. Her teammate, Julia Rea, was 29th in 19:22.6 and junior Janae Parsons was 36th in 19:27.8.

Right behind them came a group of Eagles. For Arlington, Anne Louise Fernandez was 43rd in 19:33.3; Paige Nelson 62nd in 19:57.7; Hannah Johnson 68th in 20:03.8; Maggie Delaney 69th in 20:04.2; junior Kate Rosson was 76th in 20:09.6; Taylor Cochran 107th in 20:40.1; Vivian Potong was 117th in 20:56.4.

Also for MG, junior Lilli Toone was 111th in 20:45.9. Freshman McKenzie Lewis was 152nd in 22:03.1; junior Madisen Lovold 154th in 22:21.8 and freshman Madyson Sutherlin 155th in 22:32.2.

Alexia Sandoval was 105th for M-P in 20:39.6.

Meanwhile, six cross country runners from Lakewood competed in the 2A Championships Saturday at the same course.

Callie Buchanan was 39th in 20 minutes, 19.5 seconds. Madison Howe was 48th in 20:31.6; sophomore Alexa Daily 64th in 20:56.5; and Jaydee Yargus 70th in 21:03.4 out of the 155 competitors.

For the boys, Alex Jensen was 62nd in 16:58.3, and junior Gabe Hatch 77th in 17:08.4 out of the 166 competitors.
