The Arlington wrestling team took care of business against Mariner in a Dec. 11 dual meet.

In a match where several contests could have gone either way, a forfeit and major decision advantage gave Arlington a 38-28 win at home against the Marauders.

Heavyweight Bryant Dickerson won the night’s second match, pinning his Mariner rival, but Arlington lost matches at the very lightest and heaviest weights, giving Mariner an early lead.

A pin by Kellen Haynes at 119 pounds, along with an aggressive 14-2 major decision victory by Justin Goheen in the next match at 125 gave Arlington its first point lead of the night. Assistant coach Jim Smoots credited the win with helping set the tone for the following matches.

A forfeit at 130 pounds gave Mat Badgley an automatic win while a pin by Chris Berg in the next round added 12 points to Arlington’s lead.

Sophomore Nathan Shortt (145), senior Chris Myers (160) and junior Seth Henderson (171) all had wins by decision or major decision, rendering a pin by Mariner’s Adam Nelson in the final round moot to his team’s outcome.

Arlington improved to 3-0 with the win with dual meets against Stanwood and Monroe looming before the holidays.
