YAKIMA – Ferndale’s got Arlington’s number this year.
After beating the Eagles for the district championship last week, the Golden Eagles got them again Saturday, winning 3-1 to place fifth in state, with Arlington finishing sixth.
At the Sun Dome in Yakima, Ferndale beat the Eagles 25-22 in the first set, but Arlington tied it up in the second, winning 25-21. But the Golden Eagles finished off the local team 25-16 and 25-19 to take the trophy.
The Golden Eagles beat Arlington by the same 3-1 score for the district title. It was the first loss of the year for the Eagles.
Both teams advanced to the game by winning their first contests at state, losing in the quarterfinals, but winning their consolation matches Saturday morning.
Arlington beat Wesco rival Snohomish Saturday, losing the first set 24-26, but winning the next three 25-10, 25-17 and 25-14.
The Eagles were dropped to the consolation round by losing to Mount Spokane Friday night 23-25, 10-25 and 20-25. It was only their second loss of the year.
They won their opening match Friday morning, beating Peninsula 3-1. Arlington won the first game 25-18. The second game was the closest, with the Eagles pulling out a 26-24 victory. Then the Eagles lost their only set of the match 17-25. But they put the Seahawks away in the fourth set 25-16.
Ferndale advanced by beating Stadium 3-1, losing to Roosevelt 3-1, then beating Lakeside of Seattle 3-0.
