ARLINGTON — Eagles track and field hosted their first meet of the season, the 10th annual Chuck Randall Relays, and took the top team spots for both boys and girls on Saturday, March 16, at John C. Larson Stadium.

Eight schools competed in the event and the Arlington boys team took first place with a team score of 125.93. The girls team took first place with a team score of 94.94.

“The team performed very well for our first competition of the year despite the weather,” said AHS coach Judd Hunter. The Arlington team is pretty evenly split between older and younger competitors, which helps bring the team to a higher level of success.

“The younger athletes can learn from the veterans,” said Hunter. This year’s group has a number of successful veterans, including former state level contenders Dan Boyden, Jared Alskog, Skylor Elgarico, Marissa Swegle, Lyndsay Leatherman, Jessica Ludwig, Diamond Martin and McKenzie Corpron. According to Hunter, there are also some freshmen who have shown promise during the first few weeks of practice — distance runner Emma Janousek and sprinter Anthony Dill. He also noted that the group of state level athletes as well as CJ Taylor and Shelton Rose are leading in their events.

Senior Skylor Elgarico took first place in the boys 100-meter dash with a time of 11.59. Senior Diamond Martin took first place in the girls 100-meter dash with a time of 13.58.

Senior Jameson Wren took first place in the boys 1,600-meter with a final time of 4:46.47.

Junior Jared Alskog took first place in the boys 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.96. Sophomore Jessica Ludwig took first place in the girls 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.30.

The girls 4×100-meter relay team of McKenzie Corpron, Martin, Sheltyn Rose and Darby Winterer took first place with a time of 52.32.

The boys 4×800-meter relay team of Ivan Baez, AJ Passalaqua, Pieter Andrews and Wren took first place with a time of 8:58.31.

Arlington also had several first-place finishes in field events. Senior Dan Boyden took first place in shot put with a distance of 51-2.25. Junior Lyndsey Leatherman took first place in girls shot put with a distance of 37-4.

Boyden also took first in the boys discus throw, with a final distance of 166-10. Leatherman took first in the girls javelin throw with a distance of 131-02.

Senior Marissa Swegle took first in the girls discus throw with a distance of 105-03.

Second place finishers include the boys 4×100-meter relay team of Elgarico, Jayden Jira, Albert Abes and Max Gray took second place with a time of 45.28. The boys 4×400-meter relay team of Anthony Dill, Alskog, Nicholas Taylor and Gray with a time of 3:35.93.

The girls 4×400-meter relay team of Martin, Rose, Winterer and Emma Janousek took second place with a time of 4:19.44. The girls 4×800-meter relay team of Rachael Fleming, CJ Taylor, Channing Hudson and Shanelle Shirey took second place with a time of 10:44.38.

Swegle took second place in the girls shot put with a distance of 36-11.75 and Leatherman took second place in the girls discus with a distance of 97-09.

Hugh Duffy took second place in the boys javelin with a distance of 147-07 and Trent Sarver took second place in the boys high jump with a height of 5-10.

Elgarico took second place in the boys long jump with a distance of 19-09. Ludwig took second place in the girls triple jump with a final distance of 33-10.50.

The team is preparing for the upcoming meet against Lake Stevens and Glacier Peak at Lake Stevens High School on Thursday, March 21, at 3:30 p.m.
