ARLINGTON There was no scorekeeping when the Arlington baseball team faced Lakewood in a scrimmage at the Arlington baseball fields, but the rainy match-up March 10 gave the players valuable on-field time and coach Doug Plucker a chance to evaluate individual performances in competition.
Plucker had good things to say about the defensive performance of senior Andrew Disotell.
Pitching-wise I was really happy with junior Caleb Scarth, Plucker added. He kept the ball down, was throwing pretty hard and threw lots of strikes. Offensively, we gave everybody a chance. Our order was mixed up, but everybody got at least two at-bats. We didnt have a lot of opportunities to evaluate at-bat.
Despite Scarths play, the Arlington pitching burden will be spread around and Eagle fans should not expect to see a rigid pitching schedule anytime this season. The Arlington hurlers will play only a few innings at a time as they build up their arms, Plucker said. He added that, even at full strength, he will select the starter on a game-by-game basis.
