Arlington, M-P both win tight 4-3 matches in tennis; Ramirez scores 4 in Lakewood soccer victory

ARLINGTON – The Eagles boys tennis team battled to a 4-3 win over Oak Harbor Monday.

The teams split in singles, with No. 1 Taras MuCurdie winning 6-2, 6-3 and No. 2 Ben Spores winning two tough ones 6-4, 7-5. Arlington won No. 1 doubles in another close match, 6-4, 7-6 with the second game going to a 7-2 tiebreaker. Keaton McBride-Colby King took that. After the host team took No. 2 doubles, it was up to No. 3 Joby Johnson-Trevor Remie. That won was another battle, with Arlington winning the first set 7-6 after an 8-6 tiebreaker. They won the second set 6-4 to clinch the victory for Ben Menro’s squad.

MARYSVILLE – Marysville-Pilchuck also beat Everett 4-3.

Everett won the first two singles matches, but M-P came back to take the next two: Treven Southard won 6-1, 6-4 and Aaron Kalab 6-1, 6-3. At No. 1 doubles, Trae Tinglestad-Carson Asper lost the first set 6-3, but came back to take the next two easily 6-0 and 6-2.

Everett took the No. 2 doubles match but Dawson Nyblod-Chris Hackman were clutch for M-P. After losing the first set 6-2, they came back and took the next two sets in extremely close play, winning 7-5, 7-5 both times.

LAKEWOOD – The boys soccer team fell to Ferndale 7-0 Monday.

Girls soccer

LAKEWOOD – Iliana Ramirez scored a hat trick plus one in Lakewood’s 5-0 win over Nooksack Valley Monday night.

Along with Ramirez’s four goals, Jasmine Graham added one, coach Nick Anderson said.

The forwards passed the ball around as four of them earned assists on the goals, including Ramirez on Graham’s score. Also getting assists were Kaley Chang, Charlie English and Jaylene Priebe-Garcia. One of Ramirez’s goals was unassisted.
