Just as the undefeated Arlington Blue Junior Football Team was running the ball across the goal line in overtime to end their season with an 22-14 championship victory over the Mount Vernon Bulldogs, the rain lightened up and the two Arlington Midget teams were waiting patiently behind the chain-link fence for their turn. The North Cascade Youth Football League Association Championships were held Saturday, Nov. 18, at Mount Vernon High School.
The Arlington Blue and Gold Midget (9-10 year-olds) football teams have both held the number one spot in the A and B divisions with a 10-0 and a 9-1 record, respectively. Arlington Blue has the speed and versatility of their players. Whereas the Arlington Gold team has a tough running game and a strong defense that has had only 20 points scored on them all season until Saturday night when both teams found themselves playing each other for the Division Championship title.
The game remained scoreless at the half, but not without some outstanding runs by both teams. Shawn Adams made a huge gain in the first quarter but was finally stopped by the Arlington Gold defense. On a punt return to Arlington Blue, Tanner Post from Arlington Gold took the opportunity to recover the ball once touched by Blue Offense.
In the second quarter, Gold had the ball at about their 20-yard line, but Blue regained possession. The tough Gold defense held out for a scoreless first half.
In the third quarter, Blue drove the ball all the down to their 10-yard line where it was fumbled and Gold had possession. Blue took it right back and with some great blocks, Palmer Gregory was able to run the ball in for six points. And thats where the score stayed 6-0.
