ARLINGTON — Arlington high school hosted its first home football game of the season on its new synthetic turf field last friday night, but it was also a special night commemorating those lost in the Oso Mudslide six months ago and the presentation of the NFL football grant from the Seattle Seahawks for Arlington's new turf.

ARLINGTON — Arlington High School hosted its first home football game of the season on its new synthetic turf field last friday night, but it was also a special night commemorating those lost in the Oso Mudslide six months ago and the presentation of the NFL football grant from the Seattle Seahawks for Arlington’s new turf.

Arlington Mayor Barb Tolbert united the Arlington and Eastside Catholic football teams to recognize the first responders with a moment of silence and the National Anthem.

The mother of Jovon “JoJo” Mangual, Jonielle Spillers, was then presented with a signed jersey of her son who was lost in the mudslide. Seattle’s Blue Thunder and the Seattle Seahawks Seagals performed at halftime when the 250,000 dollar NFL grant was presented to Arlington.

But the Arlington Eagles lost their first game of the season 48-7. Arlington’s offense though looking strong at first, was plagued with mistakes, interceptions and turnovers. Arlington’s only touchdown was in the fourth quarter by Kyler Smith with a 10-yard touchdown.

In other football news, Marysville-Pilchuck was handed its first loss of the season by O’Dea 34-10. M-P was able to get a 40-yard field goal in the first quarter, but O’Dea stacked up points from there after, with M-P scoring its only touchdown in the last quarter.

Marysville Getchell was bested by lakeside 55-21, despite Collin Montez rushing for 273 yards and 34 yards receiving.

And lastly, Lakewood held off an Archbishop Murphy rally in the second half edging them out 18-17 in its first win of the season. Lakewood’s quarterback Palmer Gregory completed eight of 15 passes for 140 yards and rushed for 160 yards.
