EVERETT — Arlington quarterback Andy Smith — now helping the Eagles on the hardwood — was recognized at the Snohomish County Football Officials Hall of Fame Scholar Athlete Awards Banquet Dec. 9 at the Everett Holiday Inn.

Smith won a $1,000 scholarship given out to quarterbacks or running backs.

Each school nominated an athlete for award consideration and the board votes on them based on their commitment on the field, in the classroom and to their surrounding community.

“Andrew just stood out a little bit more with all of the things he’s done at Arlington in four years,” said committee member Bob Sund.

Smith, who was a captain this season, holds a cumulative 3.77 GPA, and is a student representative on the Arlington School Board.

On the field, Smith led the Eagles to a 5-5 record (3-3 Wesco Conference) and were a first team, all conference selection.

Also nominated by their respective schools was senior wide receiver Cameron Fry from Lakewood and quarterback Zack Hanson from Marysville-Pilchuck.

“All of these guys are special and they are our future leaders,” Sund said. “And we just know that each and every one of them is going to make an impact somewhere.”

This was the 28th annual year for the banquet, which gave out $4,000 over five scholarships this season. The backs’ scholarship was sponsored by Carter Subaru.
