One week after losing to rival M-P the Arlington Eagles football team finished their season on a winning note.
Their 36-8 non-league defeat of Mount Vernon Friday, Nov. 3, at John C. Larson Stadium ended their season with a 3-7 overall record.
Mount Vernon ended their season 3-7.
First-year coach Tim Tramp said considering the wet and miserable rainy conditions, I thought we handled ourselves pretty well.
It was a really sloppy night, but we created some havoc and capitalized on some of their mistakes. It was a great way for our juniors to get ready for next year on a positive note.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard first with a 2-point safety from sophomore defensive back Chris Myers.
Myers hit the end zone later in the quarter on a 10-yard run and junior running back Travis Doggett followed with an identical 10-yard plunge.
Senior defensive lineman Tanner Bowers pounced on a fumble recovery in the end zone and Arlington led 23-0 at halftime.
Bowers finished with five tackles on the night.
After a scoreless third quarter, junior defensive back Brandon Gunter blocked a punt in the end zone for another Eagles touchdown.
Our special teams were definitely a difference maker, Tramp said. We certainly took advantage of that.
Myers capped off the scoring with a 52-yard run after Mount Vernon scored their only touchdown of the game for the final of 36-8.
Myers finished with 10 carries for 89 yards and the Eagles had a total of 186 rushing yards.
Junior defensive back Jerad Barber picked off his seventh pass of the season to lead the Wesco North league.
Senior quarterback Trevor Milles was 8-for-13 on the night for 108 yards giving him more than 2,000-yards on the season.
Arlington out gained Mount Vernon 240 yards to 93.
We are excited about next year, Tramp said.
