SNOHOMISH — The Eagles’ junior varsity and freshman track and field teams landed themselves in the top five teams in the Western Conference during the championship meet at Snohomish High School on Tuesday, April 30.

Arlington freshman boys took first place out of the 18 teams that competed, with a team score of 99 points. The freshman girls took second place with a score of 97, while the JV girls took second place with a score of 161. The JV boys took fourth place, with a score of 150 points.

“They did awesome,” said head coach Judd Hunter. “The boys freshman team won it and the girls took second behind Jackson. There were 18 Wesco teams, both 3A and 4A and we ended up above most of them.”

For the JV boys 100-meter dash, Anthony Parra took first place with a time of 11.71, while freshman Anthony Dill took first place in the freshman 100-meters with a time of 11.54.

“Freshman Anthony Dill had a really good day,” said Hunter. “He won the 100 and was fifth in the 4×100.” Parra took first in the JV 200-meter race with a time of 24.12. Junior Nicholas Taylor took first in the JV 800-meter race with a time of 2:10, while freshman Ivan Baez took third in the freshman 800-meters with a time of 2:15.

“Nate Beamer won the boys freshman 1,600- and 3,200-meter races,” said Hunter. “He is really fast, but he had to sit out a year from varsity because he transferred from Marysville.”

Beamer finished his 1,600-meter with a time of 4:49 and his 3,200-meter with a time of 10:31. Baez was close behind in both those races, taking fourth in the 3,200-meter with a final time of 10:47, and seventh place in the 1,600-meter with a final time of 4:57.

Freshman Eli Senn took second place in the boys 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.22.

The boys JV 4×100-meter relay finals took the team of Phoenix Howell, Alex Hayward, Tristan Trotter and Sean Patnode to second place with a time of 47.18.

The freshman boys 4×100-meter relay team of Jordan Smith, Senn, George Spady and Dill, took fifth place with a time of 50.32.

The freshman boys 4×400-meter relay team of Jacob Fankhauser, Baez, Pieter Andrews and Beamer took third place with a time of 4:04.49.

The boys field events were also successful for Arlington, as JV javelin thrower Gareth Henderson took fifth place with a 134-06, and freshman Dillon Adahl took third with a 119-01.

Freshman Jordan Smith took second place in the high jump with a 5-06. JV pole vaulters Kyle Beaton and Taylor Shepherd tied for third place with a 9-00, while freshman George Spady won the frosh finals with a 10-00.

Saige Taylor Archey took fifth place in both the JV long jump and the JV triple jump with a 17-06.5 and a 36-00.5 respectively.

The Arlington girls teams were successful in sprint, distance and field events as well.

Freshman Danielle Baker took fifth in the girls 100-meters with a time of 13.56. Freshman Tori Green took fourth in the 400-meters with a time of 1:12.33. Freshman Marie Gaudin took second place in the 800-meters with a time of 2:28.

Shanelle Shirey took first in the girls 1,600-meter with a time of 5:38, while Cassidy Rude took third with a 5:46. Freshman Gracie Casteneda took first in the 1,600-meter with a 5:27.

Shirey also took first in the 3,200-meters with a time of 12:25.33.

“Channing Hudson did pretty well. She took fifth in the 100-meter hurdles and third in the 300-meter hurdles,” said Hunter. Hudson’s 100-meter time was 18.61, while her 300-meter time was 53.01. Cierra Schaffer took second place in the freshman 300-meter hurdles.

The 4×100-meter relay team of Katelynn Byrum, Haley Gonzales, Natalie Nichols and Angie Shell took second place for JV with a time of 56.70.

The 4×100-meter freshman relay team of Kerra Williamson, Danielle Baker, Jessica Madison and Anastaya Dickson took fifth place with a time of 56.88.

Schaffer, Williamson, Baker and Marie Gaudin took third place in the freshman girls 4×200-meter relay with a time of 1:54.91, while Hudson, Casteneda, Gaudin and Hannah Chung took first in the freshman 4×400-meter relay with a time of 4:31.45.

“Jayla Russ won the shotput for the freshman and took second in the discus,” said Hunter of the freshman.

Alejandra Soltero won the javelin for JV with an 85-01. Arlington girls pole vaulters took second and third places as Olivia Matson got a 7-06, and Gonzales and Natalie Levesque tied with a 7-00.

Shay Siplin took second place in the JV triple jump with a final of 31-01, while Schaffer took fifth for the freshman girls with a 26-10.75.

Arlington hosts the Wesco 4A finals on Friday, May 10, at 5:30 p.m.
